Just curious, but what Avengers era got each of you hooked?
Mine was immediate because I started reading it at the beginning of the Celestial Madonna Saga (Avengers #129 & Giant-Size Avengers #2) and Englehart (along with Sal Buscema/Joe Staton, Dave Cockrum, Don Heck, George Tuska and then to cap it off, George Perez) had me hooked.
I then managed to pick up the Avengers vs. the Defenders and the rest is history.
(and I guess I shouldn't understate the importance of Avengers reprints in Martvel Triple Action and the Marvel Treasury Edition) |

The Cap's Kooky Quartet era was mine! As Bobster indicated, this was mostly because of Marvel Triple Action reprints!
Although the Englehart Era would be the second; how could anyone resist the splendiferousness of the Serpent Crown Saaga! |

I think it's when George Perez really hit his stride as an artist, its just to bad his first Avengers run didn't last longer.
And who else would have thought to include Patsy Walker and the old Marvel Western gunfighters in an Avengers story? |

Well, to be honest... George could pretty much dominate the Avengers for a few decades, and I'd still think it far too short... |

I have fond memories of going to visit my aunt and uncle and reading his boxes of old comics...some of the Lee era, Thomas' stuff all the way through to the first Perez run. He had a ton of 60's-late 70s Marvel. It was always fun to go there and read an entire run of comics while the grown ups played cards.
I've since re-read everything via reprints and online and I have to say that the Busiek/Perez run really stands out for me...the last "great classic" run before Bendis deconstructed the team and made them into something not really all the Avengery to my tastes. |

I would later discover and love Giant Size #2, the Celestial Madonna Saga, the Kree Skrull War, the Korvac Saga, all the Ultron and Kang stuff and Hawkeye's heroics against the Collector, but...
what got me hooked initially?
The Fall and Trial of Henry Pym. AKA the second Shooter run and the early Stern run. Still a story that, AFAIK, still hasn't been collected into a TPB.
So I was right there for the Stern run in my formative years and have been around ever since. |
